The name of my text chain with my parents is titled “Built Different”. This name started in a joking manner, but now has become my mantra because I am driven to succeed in wrestling and I do live my life differently. Finding wrestling has been life changing for me. As someone with ADHD and auditory processing, wrestling has taught me how to maintain discipline and focus both on and off-the-mat. My academic performance has improved significantly – my weighted GPA is 4.73. In order to prioritize wrestling practices and tournaments, I have learned to become organized and efficient in completing my schoolwork. In my personal life, I have completely revamped my diet and work out regularly in order to perform my best. As a result, I have taken huge strides in my wrestling performance.
What sets me apart is my coachability. I am a true student of the sport. My club and high school coaches continually focus on the fact that I listen to what they teach and make instantaneous adjustments. I consume a huge amount of wrestling and discuss those matches, as well as my own so that I can continue to improve.
I am also a leader on my teams. I was named captain as a sophomore and I actively work to help my teammates improve. If we are ever at a tournament where a coach is not around, they ask me to coach them.
Simply put, I am seeking to continue to wrestle in college because I can’t imagine my life without it. In addition, I am driven to continue to improve – I want to continue to push myself to see what I am capable of achieving.
