Hi to all coaches. My name is Dalton Danza, and I am an upcoming junior at Fordham Preparatory in The Bronx, New York. I currently wrestle for Bx Elite, a club team managed by our in-season assistant coach, and in addition, wrestle for Fordham Prep throughout the winter. I aspire to attend a top-tier college within the tri-state area, and hope to wrestle wherever I go. Not only am I a dedicated athlete, but I am also a highly accomplished student, with many honors and AP classes under my belt; I aspire to take many more within the latter half of my high school career. However, there is an important piece of my life that I have yet to mention. Discovered during the summer leading up to my freshman year, doctors told me that I had an abnormal abscess located on the left side of my brain. Later, this abscess would be revealed to be a benign tumor; although it was non-cancerous, the placement of this tumor caused frequent seizures throughout the night, none of which occurred while I was awake. The effects of this tumor affected both my sleep and my grades, which until this year, went unresolved for a long time. However, I chose to use my situation not as an excuse, but as encouragement. Prior to its removal this year, I won the JV NYC Championship in January, along with placing and winning at other local tournaments. My procedure took place in February of this year, and was supposed to keep me out of action until May. But, in typical Dalton fashion, I sprung back swiftly and with a vengeance, placing second in both Freestyle and Greco at the New York state championship in April. My passion for the sport helped me recover much faster than expected, helping to return me to my normal lifestyle. Just as my grades have continued to rise following my procedure, so has my wrestling career, and I plan to keep challenging myself, as I believe that is what life is all about: overcoming challenges.
