Personal Statement
Baseball hasn't always come easy to me. Throughout my life I have played multiple sports and I have loved being an athlete. In 7th grade I decided to pick up a baseball bat and have been passionate about it ever since. I've had good days and bad days, but I use my bad days as motivation to get better and keep grinding. My freshman year I hit a major batting slump. The frustration of not getting on base and not contributing to my team caused me to have anxiety and put more pressure on myself. Through talking with my coaches, teammates and parents, I used that pressure to overcome the slump. I spent extra time in the gym and on the field and I talked out the pressure to succeed. The next year I batted over .400 and was a major impact in helping my team win the state championship as their starting center fielder.
Going through what happened my freshman year made me the baseball player I am today. My failures made me realize that the extra work is worth it because it helps me and my team. I always give 100% effort, no matter the situation. This is a quote from my assistant coach, " You are the type of player to dive for a ball and sacrifice your body even when we are down by a lot in the last inning of a game." This is a great representation of who I am as a player. Being part of a team has helped me grow as a person and a player. It has helped me learn to adapt to difficult situations on and off the field and has helped me overcome them.
Academics and learning are very important to me. Doing well in school has always been a priority for me and I have been able to achieve above a 3.6 GPA at ASU Prep Elementary, Jr. High and High School. Having good study habits and having good relationships with teachers has helped me become a well-rounded student athlete. It is my goal to continue playing baseball at the college level. I have put in place many different things to achieve this goal, and I am excited to ride out the journey.
