Personal Statement
In everything I do, I always bring a sense of curiosity to pursue and discover new things about myself and the world around me. When there is something that I care about, or something that brings me joy to do, I always want to look below the surface level. In terms of baseball, this has lead to a personal fascination with the mental side of the game. I love thinking about pitch sequencing or studying advanced baseball analytics. The mental intensity required to be a catcher is one of my favorite parts of the job. So many different factors go into every decision a catcher has to make, and I do my best to understand the ins and outs of every one of those factors. Of course, my curiosity does not only apply to baseball. For example, in school my favorite subject is history, and more specifically, government and policy. I love examining the intricacies and nuances of government, and the nearly infinite factors that go into any political decision. As a subject, I feel that with history there is always something to talk about, and more depth that can be learned about any situation at any point in time. I’ve looked more in depth to parts of history that are important to me, such as the Japanese American Internment during World War II. My grandparents were interned, so I’ve always wanted to spread their story to avoid situations like their’s in the future. I’ve been working with a Japanese American museum near me that works with Internment remembrance, and I plan on doing an oral history project with this museum by the time I graduate high school. As I take on the beast that is the college recruiting process, I am curious to learn more about myself and push myself to my absolute limits. So far in my life, my curiosity has helped me find and explore my passions, and I can’t wait to see where it’ll take me next.
