Personal Statement
Why me?
I believe there are three things that make a good player; character, hitting and fielding. The characteristics I will bring to the team are; a positive attitude, hardworking, responsible, team player and leader. An example of being a positive team player is my freshman year I was injured last preseason game (hip avulsion). I still suited up everyday for games and practices. I wasn’t asked or told to do it, however I showed up for my team because that’s who I am. I was supposed to be captain of varsity, my Junior year, but we lost it due to Covid. This year I will be captain of our varsity team.
My second quality is hitting. This is where I excel the most as a player. I am a power hitter who can get on base and also hit the ball gap to gap. I have always batted 3-5 on all my teams. Many coaches have told me that I am the guy they want in a big situation. I am very good under pressure. My Sophomore year I led the team in XBH, RBI’s and OBP. Junior year lost to Covid. Senior year I will lead the team again.
The final quality I will bring is fielding/versatility. I am primarily a first baseman but I also play third base, and outfield. I am athletic so I can move off the base and get a tag with quick hands as well as pick the ball. I am the guy the coach always moves in for bunt defense. He knows that I know what to do because I think two plays ahead and know the situation. Finally, I have a good instinct for the game and I am a student of the game.
