John Melrose '27 Recruiting Profile

My name is John Melrose, and I was born and raised in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC until moving to Bradenton, Florida to attend IMG Academy to further my academic pursuits and play baseball for my middle school years.  My family moved back to Washington, DC in the summer of 2023 so I can attend the St. Albans School for my high school years.  I am also enrolled in Stanford Online High School on a part time basis where I am taking classes in furtherance of my interest in astronomy and astrophysics.

As a prospective candidate for your program, I bring a lifelong love of baseball and an intense work ethic, both academically and athletically.  I try to foster a sense of team and togetherness on the baseball field because the game is simply more enjoyable when we all act as one unit instead of individual players doing what we need to make our stats look good.  Its all about winning...  Everyone plays better when we celebrate our accomplishments or fail together when we fall short.  We win together and we lose together where our focus is on getting better by working on what we can control.

I pride myself on my academic accomplishments and plan to study at a top ranked astrophysics (or physics) university where I can also play baseball – hopefully at an NCAA Division I or III level.  I feel at my best when having to compete in both the classroom and on the baseball field as there is no better way to spend my time.
