Personal Statement
Hello, I felt I needed to update this after a few years since a lot has changed in my life and baseball career over the last few years, specifically my relationship with baseball and how it’s shaped my life. Coming into freshman year I was committed to a D3 school called Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. I both hit and pitch there and hope to make some sort of impact on the varsity level in the spring. Although I was having consistent issues with my shoulder which had been going on most if not all days I threw, especially if I threw a bullpen that day. At the same time I began thinking about what my real goals with baseball were and if I would truly be satisfied with myself by staying there for my four years of college baseball, then that would be it. I decided I needed to make a change and see for myself just how far I can go, and what greater things I can accomplish in the game of baseball. I transferred back to where I am now at Oakton Community College, planning to focus only on pitching knowing that and reuniting with my old pitching coach Scott Firth. After pain in my shoulder continued through the winter the trainers got me an MRI and found tears in my labrum, eventually being operated after about two months physical therapy, on April 27th, 2021. It has been a tough road getting this far but as of now I am finish with my physical therapy and back to throwing consistently, hoping to be back on the mound within the year and ready for the spring season of 2022. I feel this injury has humbled me both as a player and a person in general. I don’t take a second out in the field for granted and remind my teammates of that same thing because they know I would give a lot to be in there shoes. I’m passionate about winning above all else and along with watching others succeed. I do my best to stay up on the fence at all times and encourage others to do the same, I feel by doing so even while I’m still recovering I am make some sort of impact on the game. I try to carry this same level of passion into the classroom, or at least to the extent I can being in online classes. I have been a pathway of educational classes since highschool and plan to major in special education moving forward. A significant factor in my decisions moving forward with baseball revolve around my ability pursue a good education.
