Personal Statement

 My name is Thomas Symonds from Canberra Australia and I will be graduating from Marist College in November 2018. I started playing baseball when I was 10 years old and have not looked back since. Baseball has enriched my life in so many ways. It has taught me commitment in both sport and academics. It has taught me the value of hard work, dedication, building on success and dealing with failure.


Baseball has also taught me the kind of person I want to be through my brother who suffered a torn labrum during one baseball season. His determination to recover from the injury, play through pain and unwillingness to give up, inspired and motivated me to be a better player and person.


Baseball has provided me with many different opportunities such as being apart of Canberra’s High Performance Baseball Program, representing Canberra at various National Youth Championships and even going overseas to the US on a tour in 2017. It is during this tour that we played against several high school varsity teams in California and Oregon. It is through baseball that I hope to ultimately earn a college degree so that I might be set up for my future regardless of what happens Given the opportunity I have no doubt that I will be able to demonstrate my commitment to both baseball and academics.
