Personal Statement

Hi, I’m Mikael Garner (Class of 2028) from Auckland, New Zealand. I attend Rutherford College and play for the Bayside Westhaven Wolves as an outfielder and pitcher.

I’ve represented at the highest levels in New Zealand, including the 13U & 14U Auckland teams, the 15U NZ 40-man squad, and most recently the 18U New Zealand Development Squad. Last year I also competed in the USSSA World Series in Chino Hills, California, with the Pac-Men under former Seattle Mariners coach Gary Wheelock.

This season I’m competing in both 19U and Premier Reserves to challenge myself against stronger competition. My coaches describe me as coachable, hardworking, and competitive. Working with former Mets-affiliate pitcher Elliot Johnstone, I recently increased my velocity by 10 mph in just 8 weeks. I’m equally committed to academics and maintain strong grades, as I know college success starts in the classroom.
