Personal Statement
My name is Logan Umbach, and I am a class of 2024 catcher from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. I would describe my approach as a receive-first mentality - it’s the most frequently-utilized and important skill for a catcher. I focus on maximizing strikes (keeping pitches thrown in the zone, in the zone) and “influencing” strikes where possible with consistent framing ( MLB pitchers only hit their target 24% of the time with fastballs).
All catchers love to throw, and it’s the easiest skill to measure. I take great pride in my throwing (transfer, footwork, release, power, and accuracy) with a pop time of 1.87 seconds and strong caught stealing percentage.
I have a very aggressive blocking mentality that I work hard on with only 4 passed balls in 104.0 innings caught last summer. And more importantly, I’ve earned the trust of my pitchers to throw the right pitch in the right location with the confidence that I will block it.
I look forward to continuing to improve my craft and competing at the next level in college.
