Lane Oliphant '20 Recruiting Profile

Varsity catcher for respected west coast program coached by Pete Savage.  

Freshman Year - 1 of 4 Freshman in the last 27 Years of the program to make the Varsity team.  Freshman year, I caught pitching staff with a sub 2 ERA with pitchers  who went on to play at Oregon State (Christian Chamberlin) , Chico State and San Francisco State.  Honored as all conference catcher Freshman year and named Rookie of The Year. Also earned Varsity Academic letter Freshman year.  Played for Pete Savage’s Reno Knights American Legion team during the summer posting a 49-5-5 record playing against JC’s and top American Legion teams in California and the Pacific Northwest. 

Sophomore Year - I was the starting catcher 38/41 games my Sophomore year and caught a pitching staff with a 2.31 ERA.  I threw out runners at a 57% rate, was involved in 220 put outs, and had a .976 fielding average.  I was able to become a leader on the field and took control of the game and pitching staff. Named to all conference team for the second straight year. 

Junior Year - Starting catcher in 37 of 40 games. Lead pitching staff to a 1.95 team ERA.  Our team won the regular season title, the Regional Title, the Academic State title with a 3.74 team gpa, and we finished 2nd in the State Tournament to Desert Oasis beating them 4-1 in the first game forcing the if game.  I had 0 errors in 234 Chances for a 1.000 fielding average.  Involved in 219 put-outs.  Reduced pop time to 2.0,  threw out runners at a .647 rate and only allowed 5 stolen bases all year.   Hit in the clean up spot and batted .367 in 109 at bats with a .495 Slg%.   Named to All Conference team for the third straight year.   

I like being involved in every play behind the dish and working with our pitching staff to control the game. I enjoy the natural leadership and challenge the catching position provides.
