My name is Matt Hamilton and I am in the class of 2020. I have been in love with the sport of baseball ever since I was old enough to understand it, and I want to continue playing it as long as possible. I have had much success in baseball, being awarded 2nd All State team, Coaches Award, Rookie of the Year, winning D2 States, and leading several of my teams in hitting stats. But baseball has taught me much more than just the game. Baseball has taught me mental toughness, how to communicate with others, how to prepare for something I am passionate about, and how to eat sunflower seeds while chewing gum. Baseball has taught me some of the best life lessons, for example, how to mentally bounce back from a bad day on the field, and how important it is to pick up a teammate, or anyone for that matter, who is struggling.
I have always been complimented on my hard work ethic. Throughout middle school, I had always disliked the shape I was in physically. My freshman year of High School, I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and put myself to work. I started working out every day and eating healthy, and ultimately lost almost 25 pounds that one winter. Since then, I have gained almost all of that weight back in muscle and I don't plan on stopping. My dream of playing baseball in college is my drive for working out and being successful in school. In the past 3 months, I have increased my maximum squat by 60 pounds, and with more dedication, that number will keep improving.
In the classroom, my goal is always to maintain straight A's. I have done a great job with this goal so far, however I missed an A- by 0.7 points in one of my science classes last year, and I am driven to make that the only B+ I ever received in a class. My favorite subject in school is math because I love to solve problems. I have taken a science and math heavy course load because, as of now, I want to earn a degree in engineering. Earning a college degree in a field I love is my biggest goal because I know that I will not be able to play baseball forever.
