Personal Statement
My name is Ryan Paradis and I am a junior at Don Bosco Preparatory School located in Ramsey N.J. I attended Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, N.J. during my freshman and sophomore years and finished with a 3.64 GPA. In the fall of 2010 I transferred to Don Bosco Prep where my current average is 95.25 (3.81 GPA).
My primary position is First Base and my secondary position is Third Base. I am 6' 1" tall and weigh 195 lbs. I bat and throw right-handed and typically hit in the 4 or 5 spot. My throwing velocity of 78 mph and 60 yard dash time of 7.47 seconds have been confirmed by a number of independent sources.
In 2010 I played First Base and Third Base for the South Florida Bandits in the Perfect Game WWB 17UNational Championship in East Cobb, Georgia; Perfect Game WWBA Underclass Baseball World Championship in Fort Myers, Florida; and Perfect Game WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Florida.
My peers, teachers, and coaches also recognize me as a leader and as one of the hardest working students and baseball players that they know. I am always one of the first to arrive both at school in the morning and at the baseball field for practice or a game and among the last to leave. I know that commitment and hard work are critical to success in life both on and of the baseball field. I pride myself on demonstrating the consistent work ethic required to grow academically and athletically.
As a student of the martial arts since age 4, I have developed confidence, discipline, respect, enthusiasm, and a fierce determination to compete, persevere and succeed. Recognizing that I possessed the characteristics of a strong leader and the ability to inspire others, my karate teacher selected me from among more than 300 students to become one of the first members of the karate dojo's Leadership Team.
As a Leadership Team member, I led by example by consistently demonstrating strong academic and behavioral performance, setting and attaining academic and martial arts goals, and instructing other karate students in complicated techniques. Although I am no longer practicing martial arts because of my commitment to baseball, I continue to apply these leadership skills to other aspects of my life. I conduct myself as a gentleman both on and off the baseball field and lead others in my high school and church's youth ministry program. During the summer of 2010 I was selected as the sole representative from Seton Hall Prep to represent the school at the HOBY Leadership Conference. All of these activities have helped me to understand and appreciate other points of view and how blessed I am, and I believe that my grades and accomplishments on and off the baseball field demonstrate my abilities and commitment to everything that I do.
