My name is Richard Sherman and I am a 2021 Senior at Warren Hills High School in Washington, NJ. I have been playing baseball since I was five years old. Although I like playing other sports including soccer in the fall and snowboarding in the winter, I always look forward to the snow melting so baseball can start. I am passionate about the game of baseball and thankful for what I have learned in playing the game, and for the relationships with coaches and teammates that the game has afforded me. My normal positions have been middle infield and pitching, but over the years I have been lucky enough to have coaches that pushed me to play and learn most other positions, which has helped me to better understand the game and make it more enjoyable.
As a SS and RHP I have had success with my High School’s program as well as my Showcase team, ITZ Knights. Although I had the disappointment of a cancelled high school season this past spring, I have been lucky enough to have played in the summer and now fall season for my showcase team, while also playing varsity soccer for my high school team. With virtual learning, the schedule has been a challenge, but again I see this as something that I can learn from and better myself.
While baseball is very important to me, so are academics. Currently I am looking to major in Geology, Environmental Science, or Environmental Engineering, but am also interested in History and Political Science. My goal is to find a college that has a strong academic program that fits my interests and needs that hopefully has a baseball program where I can continue to learn and develop as a player and person.
I'm both excited and nervous to take this next step, but I am positive that I will learn and grow as a man as part of the process.
