My name is John Cerwinski and I am currently a student of the 2022 class at Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, NJ. I am a 6 ft 3 sophomore who played both the outfield and pitcher last spring for my high school team, under the tool-age of Coach Sheppard.
Baseball is not just a game to me, but it is my passion. It has played a steady role in my life while I have gone through some personal challenges.
When I was in the second grade I was diagnosed with dyslexia and transferred to a private school. I didn’t let dyslexia ruin my life, but rather this diagnosis helped me to grow. I worked hard in and out of the classroom to overcome the challenges I faced in decoding words and reading comprehension, and this hard work paid off when I was able to return to public middle school for sixth grade. Here I earned Honor Roll all three year. As my drive for success continued, it brought me to Seton Hall Prep for high school, where my academic and baseball career has flourished.
I know what it means to have to really work for what you want. I know what it means to face adversity and have to fight your way out. I know what it means to be behind in the count yet protect the plate. I know what it means to swing for the fences. I have applied this mentality of persistence and dedication to not only my grades but also to my other activities including baseball. I am motivated to work until I feel that I have achieved my goals both on and off the field.
From there I pushed myself in the gym and during practices to prove that I could be a member of the SHP team. Pushing myself to my full capacity, this allowed me to succeed in the classroom and allowed me to make the Tri State Arsenal National team.
My GPA freshman year was a 3.8 and I have pushed myself to get it higher. The second trimester of sophomore year I earned a 4.3 and I hope to increase it even more. My goal and aspirations are to play high level college baseball at a school that is the best fit for me.
