Kellen O'Connor '19 Recruiting Profile

     My name is Kellen O'Connor and I am a student at Beaverton High School in Beaverton,  Oregon.  I have been playing baseball since I was 8 and have played on a club team since I was 9 years old.  I throw left handed and bat righty so on defense I play Pitcher,  OF,  and 1b.  My favorite position is pitcher.  I think its because I feel like I have more control on the outcome of the game when I'm on the bump.  My club team has traveled to tournaments in Atlanta,  San Diego,  Manteca (California),  and every year we play in the Desert Fall Classic in Las Vegas at the end of October.  This year on my High School team I pitched for the Varsity team and played CF on the JV team when I wasn't pitching.  Our Varsity team had 16 Seniors and 2 Juniors on it,  so as a Sophomore I felt very fortunate to be able to come up and throw for such an experienced group.  We made it to the Semifinals in the State Championship and I was able to pitch in Round 2 and the Quarterfinal games.                                                         My area of study is leaning towards engineering at this point but that could very well change.  School size and geography are wide open,  it is    more important to match my educational goals with the baseball program.  One characteristic I am proud of is my ability to handle stressful situations on the field.  I dealt with numerous big moments this spring on the mound (bases loaded - no outs,  1 run lead etc)  and was able to focus and work through them.  While i prefer a clean inning it doesn't always work out that way,  so making adjustments are big.  Goals for college  baseball are to go to a program where I will have the opportunity to play for a team that works hard and pushes me to be better while meeting my academic needs.
