Personal Statement

My goal is to play competitive baseball at a college with strong academics where I can make a defining impact both on and off the field. I am a player who leads by example with a strong respect for the mental aspect of the game - being competitive and calm under pressure, staying focused and relaxed, encouraging my teammates while understanding the importance of individual contribution, and living in the moment while not forgetting that baseball is a process. I am not the guy who is typically leading cheers in the dugout, but I do lead by staying focused on every play, by staying focused while being coached, and by staying focused on my own development as opposed to how I might stack up to other players. Academically, I challenge myself by taking the most difficult classes and achieving good grades while maintaining time to play baseball, volunteer in my community, shoot my bow and occasionally go hunting with my dogs. Over the next two years, I want to help my high school team win two more state championships, and receive an opportunity to play college baseball at a top notch school.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • Baylor Elite Hitting and Pitching Camp
  • 1/18/14 to 1/19/14
  • Great camp where I was able to get in a lot of throws and swings before the season. I felt good about my mechanics in pitching, and just need to keep building explosive strength and velocity. I felt good about my swing and picked up some important tips to increase bat speed. I wasn't loading on my back hip enough so I've been working off of the tee and I have noticed big improvements in distance. I'm going to continue to focus on increasing velocity on the mound and at the plate.
  • Camp/Event
  • DBU Elite Hitting and Pitching
  • 12/14/13 to 12/14/13
  • I learned a lot about pitching and hitting mechanics and techniques for developing fast-twitch muscles. In hitting, I learned some new drills to make sure I'm leading with my hips, then shoulders and then hands. I also focused on starting early, but still staying back and not opening my front shoulder in order to 'crush' versus just hit the ball. In pitching, I learned new ways to overload and under-load which I will focus on between now and the start of the HS season.
  • Camp/Event
  • Dallas Baptist University HS Showcase II
  • 9/20/13 to 9/21/13
  • As only 1 of 2 Freshmen attending the camp, this was a good opportunity for me to identify key areas for improvement to compete at the Varsity HS and ultimately the college level. I received positive feedback on my hustle and hard work- I was able to win the plank competition during the physical training session. I also had the opportunity to pitch one inning during a scrimmage- I learned that changing velocity and pitch location against more advanced hitters was key and was able to get 3 straight outs. I received positive feedback on various aspects of my game with direction to keep working out every week to keep building speed and strength.
  • Camp/Event
  • University of Texas
  • 8/09/13 to 8/11/13
  • Received positive feedback with coaches providing direction to keep focusing on getting stronger and faster. Recognized for solid hitting and pitching mechanics, and for hustling in the field.
  • Camp/Event
  • Ron Wolforth Pitching Camp
  • 7/26/13 to 7/28/13
  • Achieved max velocity of 78 on turn-and-burn. Recognized for my hard work since last camp and noticed significant improvement in mechanics based upon video analysis.
  • Camp/Event
  • Baylor
  • 7/07/13 to 7/10/13
  • Recognized for positive attitude and consitent hustle. Received above average feedback on mechanics, swing and throwing velocity. Gained valuable feedback to keep gaining strength and speed in my game.
  • Camp/Event
  • Coyote Advanced Skills Camp
  • 7/01/13 to 7/02/13
  • I was able to get a lot of good advice from Coach Lightfoot and Coach Wallace. Coach Wallace also helps coach pitching with Ron Wolforth at the Ranch in Houston- it was a good opportunity to gain feedback on progress I had made applying what I had learned at the Wolforth Camp.
  • Camp/Event
  • Ron Wolforth 3 Day Pitching Camp
  • 1/11/13 to 1/13/13
  • Learned a lot about fast-twitch muscle training and pitching mechanics. I have been applying these principles to my practices on a regular basis, and have added considerable velocity while maintaining arm health since the camp.
  • Camp/Event
  • Champions Baseball Academy
  • 9/15/08 to 4/12/12
  • Member of Champions Baseball Academy for 4 Years and attended multiple camps and weeky training focusing on pitching, fielding and hitting.

Training

  • Hitting, Fielding, Speed and Strength Conditioning 5-7 times per week
  • 5 years
  • Cincinnati- Trained at Champions Baseball; Texas- workout 5x per week with the Highschool, 2x per week Hitting and Pitching and 2-4 times per week on speed and strength training
