Personal Statement
My name is Drew Franchok and I am a 5’9, 170 lb junior outfielder at Sherando High School in Stephens City, Virginia. I have a 3.88 GPA and am in National Honor Society. I want to attend a college or university that is the right academic fit for me and playing baseball. I also hope to obtain a Master’s degree in the future.
Right now, I am looking for a college or university with teaching or marketing programs, but I recognize that my interests may change over the next several years. Ideally, I would like to attend a mid-size school, not too rural and not too city, within four hours from home, but I am open to considering all opportunities. I want to contribute to a baseball program any way I can. I have drive and determination and I am committed to working hard. I actually get disappointed when baseball practice is cancelled.
My top qualities as a baseball player include my contact hitting, range and arm in the outfield and my awareness. I tend to lock myself in when there is an opportunity to drive runs in. I have a positive attitude, a high level of maturity for my age and I am disciplined on and off the field.
I believe becoming an umpire has helped me grow as a player. As an umpire, I have been able to see the game more. Umpiring has helped me see how tough it can be to make calls. I have learned that umpires are doing the best they can on the field.
