Independence, drive, and community are the characteristics that define both my baseball career and my playing style. I am different from other recruits because I am the one who is running my recruiting process, not my parents. My parents like sports but have never played competitively and have never pushed me to pursue a future in baseball. My passion and drive are my own. I am the one who is making this profile, running my Twitter feed, editing my YouTube videos, and emailing coaches. My parents have never made me go hit in the cage or workout. While they have been supportive and are always cheering me on, I have had the internal drive to play and perfect my game.
From a young age, I have sought out mentors and coaches. At six, I began attending Coach Michael Kuebler and Coach Ian Heisel’s CBI camp, winning “Camper of the Week” at my very first camp due to my drive and dedication. Coach Kuebler was a third baseman for the Division I SUNY Albany Great Danes in NY, and Coach Heisel spent six years in the pros and got to high A. I have also attended Coach John Cole’s camps every year. Coach Cole coached at William and Mary, UPenn and Dartmouth. My head coach at Jamestown High School is Barry Miller, who was drafted by the San Francisco Giants and reached AAA with the Phoenix Firebirds. I have been driven to always improve as a player through experienced and knowledgeable mentors who have always appreciated the drive they see when watching me on and off the field. That is why in 8th grade Coach Kuebler and Coach Heisel trusted me to coach at their CBI camps and I have been coaching at these camps ever since and as a High School student I have coached at Coach Cole’s camps. As I coach at these camps, I see myself in the kid that sprints out to his station to get an extra groundball and the kid who asks me to stay after camp to play catch with him. I try my best to help these kids in every way I can the same way that my mentors, my coaches, helped me in every way they could.
Another thing that differentiates me from other recruits is that while many of my teammates have jumped from team to team, I have stayed loyal to my local league, WYBL. From the age of 6 to now I have played in the WYBL Williamsburg Youth Baseball League. I am tied for the most years played on the WYBL travel team Williamsburg Revolution in WYBL history. I was also part of creating the first ever 17u Williamsburg Revolution team in the travel team’s history. In addition to playing in the WYBL I have raised money in partnership with the WYBL for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This dedication, along with my baseball knowledge and trusted relationships resulted in my current position as the youngest, and only high school aged, umpire, for the WYBL. I now umpire side by side with the umpires that umpired me as a kid.
While I am very independent and driven, my commitment is to my team’s success. Over the past decade I have brought these characteristics to WYBL and my community of Williamsburg Virginia and I look forward to bringing these traits to your school.
