I started gymnastics before I could even walk on my own two feet. I did that for the majority of my life. For years putting in upwards of 40 hours a week. My parents always told me “do your best”. There was no Olympic goal set. No, you have to come in first every time. All my goals were set by myself, to get better each and every day. I saw so many kids enter that gym and put in little to no effort whatsoever and we're blessed with God-given talent like no other. I would wonder, why do I have to work so hard to get that skill? As time passed I saw those kids stop working and eventually, they just stopped showing up. I worked my butt off and I listened and took my coach's advice. When I didn't see what I was doing wrong, but he did, I listened to him, I believed in his judgment, and I worked to get better. To the point when I finished my career as a gymnast, I ended up in second place in the men's all-around at nationals. I can't go any further without acknowledging my gymnastics Coach Jorge Valdes. Even though he might never read this. I would like to thank him for treating me with kindness, love, and respect. I am truly a better person because of him. That being said I came across Cheer by accident. I took a recreational tumbling class at Top Gun with Coach Sean Guzman after a few classes he told my father "he's good, and so coachable, what do think about switching him over to Cheer" My dad said it has to come from him. I wasn't ready at the time. Little did I know that Cheer was what I was missing. You see in gymnastics It's a small select few guys you spend the majority of your time with. At competitions there's no music, you can hear a pin drop. When I went over to cheer, my world was flipped upside down. I didn't know how to cohabitate with 30-plus kids, most of them women. I have one younger brother. This was a shock to me. The loud music and the screaming fans. That was a whole new world and an adjustment for me. It honestly made me more outgoing. Now I feel like I have 60 sisters and they're all crazy. Top Gun has been good to me, head Coach Tre of (YOSO) is one of a kind. Head Coach Victor of (TGLC) will get the best out of you, you will be pushed and held to an extremely high standard, both on and off the mat. You will sweat and sacrifice, but you will also rejoice and celebrate as one family. He stands by OAFAAF. Now entering a new stage in my life, starting college. I’m not ready to leave this new world behind, I‘ve just discovered. I’ve only been cheering for 2 years and I want to continue competing. I enjoyed the camaraderie, the hard work, and being in the gym. It’s my safe and happy place. Plus, those national champions' college rings would look really good on my finger.
