A good friend of my mother once told her that the best way to keep a person out of trouble is to keep them involved in sports; from my own experiences, I can attest to the truth in this advice, my involvement in sports has given me a sense of purpose and has taught me many important lessons. I have learned, for example, the importance of self-belief and determination. I feel that much of my personal development is related to my involvement in sports. Having found a passion for sports at a young age I have had a lot of time to grow over the years and strengthen my abilities as a player and teammate. When starting field hockey in third grade I thought it was something I was doing to follow in my older sister foot steps. Never in my younger years would I have thought it would make such an impact on me. Playing field hockey has always been my release and how I would unwind after a rough day. I would make sure that I was always building that skill and supporting my teammates. I would practice in the summers to strengthen my game in the fall. I have also worked with younger individuals to help not only build their abilities but also strengthen mine.
I grew up in a small town in Maine and played on local teams and then my freshman year of high school I decided it was time to take a much larger step; my family and I made the decision for me to transfer to a much larger school within a city close to us. I was not aware of the challenges that I would be facing with this change, but I would face those challenges with the same determination that I had when I was on the field. Field hockey is not only my release but it is where I have met some of my very best friends. I find myself now saying at the end of seasons "I can't wait for the next field hockey season". I have that same feeling now entering my senior year, and know that it will follow me to college. Field Hockey has been with me for my entire life and has been by my side through all my life's tough challenges and I can't not wait for it to follow me into the next chapter of my life.
