My name is Ava Kayser and I am a student in the graduating class of 2023. I am a starting outside midfielder for the Varsity field hockey team at Parkway West High School in St. Louis, MO and I've been a Varsity team captain since my sophomore year. During freshman year, I was MVP of the JV team and voted Practice Player of the year (hardest working player at practice). I was also Practice Player of the year for Varsity my sophomore and junior year, as well as 1st Team All-Conference. I play for Gateway Elite Field Hockey Club which was voted National Club of the Year by USA Field Hockey in 2021! I also attended the NEXUS training weekends in St. Louis this year and the USA training in 2020.
I started playing field hockey in the spring of my 8th grade year after having played soccer since I was 6. The transition was natural for me as field hockey and soccer are similar in terms of positioning, strategy, and fundamentals of the game. I immediately loved field hockey and have significantly increased the amount I practice and play each year.
I naturally gravitated towards outside midfield because that's primarily been my soccer position. My speed, endurance, and selflessness with the ball serve me well as a midfielder. I also play forward and center midfield and enjoy being in the offensive position.
While playing field hockey is my passion, I am equally focused on academics. I've maintained above a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and my cumulative GPA is a 4.4. I hope to attend a college with strong academics, to meet people with the same academic goals and interests as me, and to continue playing my favorite sport. I always work my hardest and push myself in whatever I do. My goal is to keep up this work ethic in high school and college both academically and athletically.
