Since the day I set foot on the field, ready to start my first practice; I felt a new sense of purpose. Compared to the veterans of the sport, my level of experience at the time was inferior. Nevertheless when it came to the passion and dedication to not only learn, but also appreciate the sport, there was no disparity. This sport instilled in me a greater sense of responsibility and balance. I knew letting my team down was not an option, which required me to hold myself to a high standard of accountability both on and off the field. I had to find a level of equilibrium between academics, athletics, as well as other extra curricular activities.
My first season I was a midfielder; I spent countless hours conditioning to improve my performance. But as my junior season approached, with the absence of a goalie I found myself settled between the posts. Upon my first practice in goal the entire game changed, I now had a far superior role. I was offered a new vantage point to help guide my team during both attack and defense, and held direct impact on the game. This season was without question the best sports season I’ve ever performed. I Started all games, won an All division award, and was interviewed for the Newsday paper. I’ve also secured the role as senior captain for this upcoming season.
I would love nothing more than to take my game to the collegiate level. Furthering my growth as both a student and an athlete.
