Personal Statement

Hello my name is Jefferson Lee V and, I am a sophomore in high school. I am currently a hundred and sixty pounds performing at the varsity level as a running back. I enjoy football immensely and, would like to play far beyond the high school level. The people that influence me are the adults in my life. They have the greatest influence and development of my character which guide the moral and standards which govern my life decisions. Growing up watching my parents and my grandparents working hard day after day continuously is what drives me to do my best every day. Both of my grandparents get up early everyday, one to go to work and the other to do the chores. My grandmother does the chores around the house while recovering from a stroke. I have always looked up to her for that, her ability to keep going and not letting anything stop her. My mother works two full time jobs as a nail technician and software broker. My father works at Southwest Minnesota State University as the director of several programs and the local president of Teamsters Local 320 Union. These examples are the reason I am a 3.8 student performing at a varsity level. I admire how hard and dedicated all of them work and that is what truly drives me, my hopes is to match them one day. First interest in football? I first became interested in football when my father mentioned to me how much fun he had in school with sports, particularly football. What I love most about football is the team atmosphere. When I first played football in the fourth grade, I loved how everybody had to work together to achieve a common goal. I really liked the idea that having to work together was the only way to achieve what we all wanted, to win but more importantly giving our all and perform as a team. What have I learned about myself playing football? While playing football I learned the importance of being a leader who knows how to follow. I have learned that I am coachable. I have found it easy to learn while I am having a lot of fun. I have also learned that I can always improve, and that I always have the want to improve. I have never been satisfied with my abilities and have always felt the need to improve. Academic goals for high school? I have three main goals for high school. One is to keep my gpa over 3.5 at all times. Secondly continue to read. I consistently read at least one book every week. Lastly, I also make it a goal to get my work done when it is assigned. I have successfully met all three of these goals since fifth grade. I would like to continue to meet all three of these goals as well as many more for the rest of high school and college. Obstacles had to face or overcome? I have not had to overcome many obstacles to get to where I am now. If there was an obstacle that I had to overcome it would be the fear of failing or simply not being good enough. I have always tried to improve through lifting and training six to seven days a week. Both have helped me to overcome my fear of failing, especially when I can see the results while performing. While lifting, training, and practicing I seem to find ease with my fear of failing. It helps to know that I am always getting better. Unique abilities? I think that I possess the unique ability to adapt and continue to push myself further all of the time. I have always kind of felt like my fear of failing has helped to push me further, and to continue to get better. I also feel like my ability to adapt has helped to make it easier to get better. I find it easy to work with different coaches and trainers when necessary. These two unique abilities have helped and will continue to help me become the best man, student, athlete, and good candidate for your team.
