Brayden Dorney '23 Recruiting Profile

          I am a sophomore at Norman North High School in Norman, OK. My passion is to be a receiver at the collegiate level. After earning “Most Valuable Player” of my freshmen class, I was a starter on varsity as punt returner and slot receiver. As an athlete, I have achieved many honors starting my 7^th grade year such as “MVP” and “Offensive Player of the Year”.  Most recently, I have earned “Newcomer of the Year” as a sophomore for the 6A Norman North Timberwolves. I also take pride in the fact that I was the conference champ my 8^th grade year in long jump and 4 x 100 relay. Unfortunately, my freshman track season was cancelled due to Covid-19. I am a versatile player in the fact that I have successfully played in many positions since I was a small child playing in little league. I had a great opportunity to play quarterback my 8^th grade and freshman year; however, my passion has always been to be a receiver. I have always played the role that my coaches needed at the time. Some of that time was at QB, some as cornerback but, most recently, as slot receiver and punt returner at the varsity level, which is where I hope to continue my football career. My work ethic is what I take great pride in the most. Some people say they want to play D1 football, and they may have the talent, but fall short in the work that it takes to truly do that. I will put the work in, and my past shows that. My coaches and trainers would attest to that, and I invite you to please contact them. I have not only excelled in my school’s program, but also have had a trainer, Ron Brown (Strength and Conditioning/Receiver Coach at Choctaw High School), for several years who has taken me to places that I did not know were possible in my fitness and agility training, and route running. He has also made me so much more mentally tough by challenging me every step of the way. Coach Brown was a receiver for Southern Mississippi, and I am so appreciative for how he has pushed me and mentored me in my journey. He, along with my great high school coaches, have contributed greatly to my 4.52/40-yard dash, my 405 lb max squat, and my 255 lb bench press as a sophomore.

           Academically, I have a 3.78 grade point average and have recently been inducted into the National Honor Society. In school, I am proud of the many awards that I have received for leadership, service, and academics. Some of these awards include the Masonic award, Longfellow Wadsworth Award, and the Diane Hubbard Service Award.  I can assure that I will be an academic asset rather than a liability. 

            My goal is to be the best player that I can be throughout my upcoming junior and senior year in high school. I truly appreciate the time and effort that my coaches have put into building a brand for our team, and I want to be an asset to them that will propel us to state. Ultimately, my dream is to play collegiate ball while pursuing a degree in business. It is my dream to be a defining member of a team with aligning goals of success.
