My name is Hunter Bowing. I started football at the age of 5 for my local youth league team. I started out my career as the quarterback/linebacker guiding our teams to 4 straight conference championships, with the last 3 seasons ending with a perfect record. Due to need, I moved to the offensive line as a 10 year old. I moved up to play junior high football in 6th grade. I played my 6th, 7th, and 8th grade years as an offensive tackle and defensive end/tackle. During the latter half of my 8th grade campaign, due to attrition in the backfield, I was switched from offensive tackle to fullback and tight end. I finished with 1 rushing touchdown and 1 receiving touchdown. I finished my junior high career by being named team captain, earning 2 all-conference awards, earning the WVSSAC Sportsmanship Award, and named as Sherman Junior High School's Bill Miller Athlete of the Year recipient after my 8th grade season.
As a freshman, I started on Sherman High School's varsity squad at defensive tackle and special teams. Our team finished with a trip to the State Quarterfinals. I was named the 2017 Sherman High School Rookie of the Year as voted on by the coaches. During the off-season, I lived in the weight room 5 days a week to prepare for the 2018 season.
My sophomore season was a blast! I played all but two non-JV snaps. I was a starter at offensive tackle, defensive end/tackle, and was on every special team. Once again our team finished with a trip to the State Quarterfinals. I earned First Team All-County at offensive tackle and Honorable Mention All State. I also led ALL sophomore defensive linemen in tackles, regardless of division, in the state of West Virginia with 59 total tackles. I look forward to even more hard work in the weight room and track to prepare for my junior season.
The 2019 campaign was a transition year for the team. Many seniors were lost from our 3 consecutive playoff trips. I played all snaps as a starter at either offensive guard, tackle, and center, and I played all defensive snaps at either tackle or nose tackle. I earned First Team All-County at offensive guard and First Team All State at offensive guard. I led ALL junior defensive linemen in total tackles, tackles for loss, and sacks, regardless of division, in the state of West Virginia with 68, 19.5, and 5 respectively. Again, I look forward to an even tougher regiment in the weight room and track to prepare for my senior season.
I have never earned a grade lower than an "A" on any report card. I have always been a 4.0 student. I currently have a weighted 4.7 GPA. I am currently taking all weighted college classes. Academics come first in my household. I currently plan on majoring in the medical field or the engineering field.
Due to my diversity of positions throughout my career, I feel it gives me a perspective of the field unlike a player who has played one position his whole career. I am dedicated to this game in ways that are hard to explain. It's what I am. I also play 3 other sports all to help with football. I play basketball to work on my quickness, endurance, and speed; baseball helps my hand-eye coordination; discus and shot put throwing helps my upper-body strength and lower-body agility, and I anchor the 4X100 relay to improve my overall speed. I look forward to any opportunity that comes my way.
