Personal Statement
Starting on varsity as a freshman and making an immediate impact on my team was a good start to my high school basketball career. Our team took second place in the Regional Tournament, advancing to the State Tournament with three starting freshman. Our success was cut short early with a heartbreaking overtime loss in our last game. The experience my team and I acquired this season will help us succeed in the years to come as we have unfinished business to accomplish. Making the State Tournament was a goal of ours, but winning State is our ultimate goal. These experiences drive me to succeed at the highest level which I truly believe will translate to the college level.
As a freshman this past season, I led our team in scoring, assists and steals. As the season progressed, I become more of a complete player both on offense and defense. I have and will continue to learn when to lead my team to wins, while at times taking a facilitator role, ensuring that my teammates are involved and successful as well.
I’m looking for a college program that is both successful athletically and academically. As my coaches would tell you, I have no fear driving to the basket and I do not shy away from contact no matter how big or tall someone is. I know what I am capable of and the only person that can stop me from achieving my goals is myself. I pride myself equally on my academic success as well as my athletic accomplishments.
In addition to working hard on the court, I work hard in the classroom. I don’t shy away from academic challenges and I pride myself in my grades. My parents have instilled in me to do my very best and to work hard at everything I’m involved in. My goal is to continue with this practice in both high school and college to reach my ultimate goal of acquiring a chemistry degree. I’m confident my skills, abilities and leadership will make an instant impact on your program.
