KEEP IT TO SELF
I have walked the golden halls of the prestigious Chicago Military Academy for four years. This school has taught me lessons that will play a pivotal role in the way I view life itself. To start Chicago Military Academy works in a ranking system ,which ranks high ranking officers over cadets. Meaning that the school is student lead ,but the only thing about this is other students abuse their power and act conceited. So when it came to freshman year I was instantly put into the group of stereotypical boisterous black young men that would never amount to a high ranking position in leadership all based on appearance.
The thought of people doubting me clouded my mind each day. But freshman /sophomore year I was just not concerned with leadership. So instead I worked immensely on having great grades and in essence I grow away from even trying to become a high ranking officer. This lead me to Basketball where I would practice 32 hours a week just because my love for the game. But Basketball took my attention from the military side of school and allowed me to create everlasting bonds with each and every teammate I had. Through basketball, through those bonds, I had a version as to how leadership should actually be ran.
Junior year, coincidentally a position open up called first sergeant.Being a first sergeant meant I was going to be in charge of my whole Junior class, which created so much anxiety for me.I almost didn’t do it but an instructor came to me and made me realize that my vision for leadership could work ,so I took the job.Once I assume the rank of first sergeant the anxiety all went away and I started to gain a relationship with everyone. No matter if they were a trouble maker or not I wanted to talk to these people and understand their side of the story.I got so good at being a disciplinary without looking down or yelling at anyone like past people at my positions once treated me.That towards the end of the year all the military instructors started to take notice of what I was doing and nominated me for the Command Sergeant Major one of highest ranks in school.
