2023 Highlights #2
2023 HighlightsDear Coaches,
Hello from upstate New York! I’m Ben Espinoza, a 18-year-old senior at Hoosac School, originally from Stockholm, Sweden. I’ve been hooked on basketball since I was six, back when I’d dribble around my living room until my mom yelled at me for almost knocking over the lamp, again. That’s when I knew I couldn’t imagine my life without this game.
I play point guard (the 1 spot), and one of the things I love most about that position is how it lets me be right in the thick of every play. My coaches and teammates say I’ve got a knack for reading what’s happening on the floor, figuring out who’s open, which defender is about to commit, and how to adjust when things don’t go as planned. In Sweden, I played for one of the top teams in the country, and it really pushed me to keep improving. I brought that competitive mindset with me to Hoosac, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
I think what makes me stand out isn’t just my shooting or ball handling, but also how I try to keep everybody together—on and off the court. I was raised to stay humble, work hard, and show respect, and I like to think that rubs off on my teammates. Whether it’s cheering on a teammate who’s in a slump or staying late after practice to nail down a new strategy, I’m all in.
Academically, I do my best to keep up the same intensity as I bring to the court. Balancing schoolwork and hoops can be tough, but it’s a challenge I embrace because I know both matter a lot for my future.
I’m really excited about the possibility of playing college basketball here in the U.S. and continuing to grow as a student-athlete. Thank you for taking a moment to read this. I hope we’ll get a chance to connect soon so I can show you what I can bring to the table—both on and off the court.
Sincerely,
Ben Espinoza
