Personal Statement
Hello, I am Darren Stephenson, I live in Beatty, Nevada. My goal to play college basketball started last year, my sophomore year, when I earned a spot on Varsity. This change caused my competitiveness to rise, I found myself being upset if I was being outworked or preformed. Instead of letting my competition be better than me, I work hard everyday to be better than I was the day before. I refuse to be outworked. I am a student-athlete who found a love for the sport and the rush of competition.
I believe I would be a great candidate for your team because I will work hard and will try my hardest to never waste a minute. I stay realistic with myself and won't make a promise I cannot keep. If I say I am going to do something you can bet I will give it my 100% and if it isn't enough I will work hard until it is. I stay optimistic, I am a big supporter of my teammates, I make sure to bring energy no matter the situation. I keep a level head on and off the court.
In terms of my character, I am a 6'4, 171 lbs. Power Forward with experience playing at Small Forward. I have played basketball since 4th grade, I played for a public school in Las Vegas, NV. I took a break and picked basketball back up in 8th grade after I moved to Beatty, NV and have played every year since. My freshman year I started on Junior Varsity and last year got a spot on Varsity. In school I put academics first, I have maintained a 4.0 gpa through high school. I make sure to put time and effort in my work to ensure quality. My goal is to play collegiate basketball, to face better and better competition is the only way to see how far I can get with myself. I want to be the best player, student, and human I can be.
