Looking back over my time playing basketball I cannot possibly argue that I am a “natural star.” In fact, at the beginning of my high school career, anyone who saw me play would have been astonished I made the cut for the reserve team. However, I am sure I would not be the dedicated student athlete I am today if I never tried to go beyond the expectations of the world around me. The humbling experiences I had as a freshman shaped my view, approach, and commitment to every aspect of my life. From then on, I strove to achieve my maximum potential, especially in basketball.
After my freshman year I eventually worked my way to a starting center on the varsity team, and I know that I still have a long way to go. For instance, next year I plan on working on my speed, shooting, and ball handling with time on my own at the local gym as well as supervised training at a local fitness center. I am looking for a program that will fit my academic interests (current weighted GPA is 4.1 on 4.0 scale) as well as my connection with basketball. I know that I have the talent, potential, and work ethic to play a significant role on any college team. Based on how I have successfully used my past weakness as fuel to improve, I know that I will continue to grow and become a significant part of your team.
