My name is Liam McAlister and I have always had a great passion for the sport of basketball. Ever since I was a child, I was fascinated with the quick pace and physicality of the sport. During my first year of high school basketball, I was extremely out of shape and very timid. However, with hard work, I was able to become better fit and a mentally-tough basketball player. In my sophomore year, I was called up to varsity as a result of great improvements I had made over the season. As a junior, I was a solid role player off the bench who was used primarily as a defensive and rebounding specialist. On the court I always lay it on the line, whether it is diving for loose balls, crashing the boards, or even being the first player down the court. I have also developed a solid post game over the years, in which I am currently working on adding a skyhook to complement my baby hook. At the same time, I have seen great improvement in my abilities to play out on the perimeter at times. While I am a hard worker on the court, I also bring my intensity to the classroom. I am one of the top students in my class and challenge myself with plenty of AP and honors courses. Not only does this prove my great dedication as a student-athlete, but it also exemplifies my great leadership skills as a role model for my fellow teammates. My goal for the next high school season is to win a state and conference championship and to be a key member of the starting lineup. I also would like to continue playing basketball at the next level for a school with great academics. By doing so I will not only be able to pursue a great education, but I will also be able to play the sport I love most beyond high school. Any school will be proud to have a student who is as responsible, contributive, and respectful as me.
