Dear Coach:
My dream as a kid was to play college basketball and there were many, many nights were I could be found on the court pretending I was Bobby Hurley playing for Duke . As I'm now starting to prepare for college I realize that I not only want to excel on the court but that I also want to excel in the classroom.
Talent is very important but I have learned that the most important factor is academics. College is very expensive and I have learned the importance of obtaining a scholarship. Not only does a scholarship reward you with money, but it is prestigious and an honor to receive one.
Having my dad for a coach is probably the toughest thing I've had to encounter. Although he's tough on me I love it and I will admit it has made me a better athlete and person. I've learned the importance of respect and know how important it is to be coachable. A team cannot be successful without players who are willing to be coached.
I always respect my coaches and support their decisions. I am an honest and accountable person. I also approach the court with a positive attitude looking to improve and get better everyday. Although I strive to be the best player I can be, my ultimate goal is team success vs. individual success. That being said I always support my teammates.
I have a passion for the game and when I'm not on the court playing you can find me doing some kind of work-out pushing myself to the next level. I'm always looking for ways to improve whether it is my shot, defense, or even my strength and agility. Sometimes I find myself looking at tapes trying to figure out how I can participate in making my team better.
I feel I would be an asset to your team because not only am I a team player, I play with a lot of intensity and refuse to give up.
