Personal Statement

I have always had a strong desire to play at the collegiate level. Basketball is not just a game but a passion and a way of life. I grew up in a gym watching my mom coach and it is the only place I want to be.  I am averaging just over 3 steals game with 21.6 ppg. In our most recent game I personally scored 51 points.

  • Josiah Wood, of Ames (OK) Cimarron Public School, is a 6'0 140lb 2018 prospect from our Fall 2017 DALLAS camp. College coaches on camp staff identified Josiah as having scholarship potential. Josiah has a good wingspan, which can be more effective with active hands/feet. Addiitonally, the prospect appears to have solid size for position and should use their size to be a pest on defense. The very talented passer does a fantastic job distributing and seeing the floor. The player is always anticipating where and when teammates will be open, a highly coveted trait in the team sport. In terms of ball handling, the prospect showed a great handle and is on the way to being a primary ball handler. In terms of basketball IQ the player was one of the smartest players we saw at camp and all Fall. The right play was almost always made, and that will be a big advantage in recruiting as this prospect showed they could be trusted on the court at all times being an extension of the coach. A big part of IQ is shot selection. Josiah does an excellent job of shooting the basketball with rhythm and possesses high-level knowledge between good/bad shots. This advantage will continue to develop by watching how this is done at various college levels. Making the extra pass and taking only open in-rhythm shots proved to be a very reliable asset for the prospect. The prospect showed they were an extremely reliable shooter throughout camp. Shooting will continue to develop with form shooting and made game speed repetitions. We recommend making at least 500 game speed shots a day off the screen(curl/fades), off the bounce, spot shooting, etc. The talent impressed finishing around the rim through contact and in traffic. With continued work finishing through traffic with either hand, adding even more finishing moves, the player will continue to be a grave threat around the basket. The talented player is an exceptional athlete proving to be an advantage on both ends of the floor having athleticism that is in the upper quartile of competitors. The prospect showed a solid level of strength. We would like to see continued strength development whether it is via traditional strength training means or body weight military type development(pushups/pull-ups). Combined with the player's decent frame, we expect the player to really develop with continued work in the weight room. The talent showeda very good motor (highly coveted skill by college coaches) that remained mostly active on possessions and from what we saw, the player showed physical and mental toughness throughout camp. The player showed excellence on the defensive side of the ball and exemplified individual and team defensive concepts that we highlighted at camp. Josiah has scholarship potential with continued hard work and development both in the classroom and on the hardwood. Can play the 1; 2. AAU Team: Team Oklahoma.
