In the past 8 years of Travel, AAU, and School basketball I have played in 16 league or tournament championship games. The biggest benefit from playing in those games was learning how not to panic or let the situation get too overwhelming in games where there was more pressure. I was very proud that coming from a very small school district, my teams won most of those games as underdogs.
Having confidence from successfully playing in higher pressure games really has helped me in High School. I have been able to get good grades in tough classes, and I am on track to be over 3.5 in my GPA this year. I earned a starting spot as a freshman for JV basketball, and was the MVP and top scorer for the JV team as a sophomore. Over two seasons, the JV team went 35-3 in the games I started, after only having 2 wins the season before I started. That confidence also helped me in playing for our Varsity Basketball team where I lettered as a sophomore and played in every game.
I know that even though I have been part of a lot of successful teams, it takes a lot of work on my part each off season to keep improving. I have attend instruction sessions and camps every year for the past 5 years for ball handling, getting my shot release higher, and creating my own shot. This off season I am looking to keep improving and to add more strength. I also play in off-season leagues and tournaments every year to practice new skills in games.
I put a lot of effort into being a better student, and I am now hoping to find a school that can help me become my best both during and after college and allow me the opportunity to try to earn a spot on a team playing at the college level.
