I have always been involved with sports for as long as I can remember. My parents insisted that I try many different sports to find where my passion was, which included soccer, baseball, football, and even wrestling. However, once I got a Basketball in my hands, I knew that was the only sport for me. The excitement of the game is like none other for me. More importantly, as I have had the opportunity to play high school Basketball, I also have realized the valuable life lessons the sport teaches you.
I started playing Basketball in 5th grade on an intramural league and quickly learned that not only did I love to play but also I was actually good at it. Parents and coaches commented on how well I handled the ball and had no hesitation to drive the lane against much bigger players. Hearing this feedback from others added to my motivation to continue improving. Although the fundamentals of the game came somewhat naturally to me that has not stopped me from continuously working hard to improve my skills and abilities. I spend the off-seasons working with trainers and coaches to improve as much as possible for the next season so that I can support my team. One player does not win games or championships, a team does.....WE is greater than ME!
One of my biggest fans is my great grandmother who is a diehard NCAA Basketball fan. Her favorite team is Duke and when we get together, she loves to talk basketball especially about our favorite team. She inspires me to work hard and stay focused because it would not only be a dream come true for me but for her as well for me to play basketball for Duke and possibly in go on to play in the NBA.
