I started playing basketball when I was six years old in a YMCA league. Back then, I was THE big man because I was about a foot taller than all the other players. Although I have continued to play the big man for my elementary, middle and high school teams, I have trained over the last four years to play all positions. My coaches all say I have good handles, I'm versatile, mobile, a leader on the court and have a high basketball IQ. They like that I am unselfish with the ball and that I listen to their direction. Frequently, coaches have me demonstrate drills to the other players.
Off the court I am an academically sound student. I managed to maintain a high GPA in a program that had a seven point grading scale my freshman year. This year alone, I took 4 AP classes. I am also actively involved in my church and my community. This year I participated in Stop Hunger Now again and I volunteered on Monday evenings for Church Hill Academic Tutoring (CHAT). I will be attending a mission trip with my youth group again this summer.
I am looking for a college program that will challenge me academically and help me reach my full potential in the engineering field while allowing me to play basketball at a higher level. I would love to play on a team where the entire squad works together to bring success to the organization, instead of relying on one or two key players to do all the work.
