Personal Statement
I envisioned myself at a very young age to be a member of the NCAA basketball program. I ate and slept basketball. I reminisce of the times I often measured my growth on the side door of my home and praying that one day I would reach a collegiate athlete stature.
As far back as I can remember ESPN was one of my favorite channels. I used to sit and watch in awe how agile and talented the collegiate basketball players were when they embraced the basketball and the court. The players exhibited such finesse when they made their shots from the inside, elbow and outside perimeters of the court. I remember my family commenting, "Victor, offense sells the tickets; defense wins the game." This was before the time of HD and LED TV, but I can recall vividly the special situations and transitions from offense to defense; playing either a half court press or full court press and their inbound plays. The intensity I felt fueled the passion to one day wear a collegiate uniform.
My mother and father are Marines. They instilled the warrior ethos of "Honor, Courage and Commitment!" This is what I stand by on and off the court.
