My goal has always been to earn an opportunity to play basketball at the college level. I feel that I am a very hard-working and versatile player who is able to fit into many different styles of play. I am a great student and have maintained a 3.3 GPA throughout high school. I love to be part of a team and get along with teammates great, and like to think of myself as a good leader.

Each year at the fall Top 250 Expo, several players enhance their stock as a result of their strong performances. Reed Pendleton, a class of 2021 guard from Cave Spring, was one prospect who consistently stood out during last month’s event. The 6-foot-2 junior did a bit of everything on both ends of the court. He shot the ball with confidence and held his follow-through, demonstrated a high basketball IQ, made plays for others, played good team defense and competed hard at all times while out on the floor. Pendleton recently spoke with Prep Hoops about his overall game, recruitment, and goals.
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your overall game?
RP: “I shoot the ball well, and I can do a little bit of everything on offense.”
PH: What do you do on the court that won’t show up on the stat sheet?
RP: “Setting some screens. Most people don’t do that, especially from the shooting guard position. But I try to set pick and pops, down screens. Stuff like that.”
PH: Why is it important to set screens?
RP: “That’s how you get open. That’s a big part of our offense at school. Screens. A lot of good plays that coach put in. So just try to execute those.”
PH: What are you working on right now?
RP: “I need to work on improving my quickness and getting faster. Keep doing the ladder, jump rope, ball handling. Everything really.”
PH: Who is recruiting you at the moment?
RP: “Some smaller schools in the area like Emory & Henry, Bridgewater, and Bluefield.”
PH: What are your goals?
RP: “To pack the stadiums every game. To win the state championship for school ball because we’ve got a good team this year. Hopefully, make one of the all-state teams and win player of the year.”

REED PENDLETON | 6’2 G | CAVE SPRING ’21
Pendleton was one of the smarter players we saw in terms of making the game look simple despite the fact that he played extremely hard. One of the things he did that you rarely see in a camp setting is set screens off the ball to free up his man. Pendleton also did some damage with the ball in his hands. His shot mechanics looked good and he consistently held his follow through.

Reed Pendleton | 6’2” WG | Cave Spring 2021
One of Adam’s favorite players from the camp, Pendleton came all the way from Roanoke to put on a show on the offensive end both with his shooting ability and the way he played without the ball in his hands. In a camp environment where everyone is out to get their own, Pendleton had some moments where he shot the ball a lot when he was feeling it, but if he wasn’t getting the ball he was constantly moving and doing little things such as screening for others and cutting through to keep the defense moving. He showed a ratchet from deep as he shot the ball extremely well, and he also surprised some people with his ability to attack and create space off the bounce and score the ball from multiple levels too.
ReedPendleton (Cave Spring ‘21) can flat out hoop. 6’2 G can score from all three levels and make guys around him better. Also a good communicator who competes defensively @PrepHoopsTop250pic.twitter.com/v6t1BVUGdL

Recap
https://twitter.com/KRob_25/status/1178763349288464386
Reed Pendleton ’21 – Cave Spring HS (Roanoke, VA): Efficiency best describes Pendleton’s performances on Sunday; he made many more shots than he missed from the first possession to the last. One can typically find him off of the ball at 6’2,” as he does an excellent job of moving all over the half-court to get open. Once teammates defer, Pendleton releases his shot pretty quickly and can also put it on the floor for one-dribble pull-ups. His speed in scoring the rock may appear fast but nonetheless didn’t ever seemed rushed. The junior knows where he wants to score and how to use timing for proper results. On his rim drives, I noticed Pendleton mainly looked to penetrate toward the baseline. He’s another piece in that group of Cave Spring players who play the game with intelligence and enough skill to make things happen under their control.

April 2018 Information from GetMeRecruited.com article from the I-95 Classic Woodbridge VA
Reed Pendleton | 2021 |5’11”| SG (Twin Hoops)
He is by far one of the better shooters in attendance. There was no answer for his ability to knock down the 3, even when closely guarded. He ran the floor and put him or his teammates in position to score.

Here is a copy of my evaluation from NC Phenom Camp March 2018
No. 90 5’11” 2021 Reed Pendleton of Cave Spring High School (Roanoke, VA)
Pendleton is an extension of his coach on the court and carries an exceptionally high basketball IQ. He is a very effective shooter, especially off of the pick and roll. He passes the ball well and has a deliberate demeanor handling the ball. Defensively, Pendleton knows how to position himself to be in the best place possible. Pendleton’s camp coach stated, “Reed has tremendous court vision and is an unselfish offensive player. He is an awesome young man to coach.”
