I began golfing freshman year with no prior experience. My very first season, I had already won a tournament and had several good finishes on JV. As of my second year of golf for Wray High School, I had won another tournament with even better finishes on varsity. I also made it to state, being the very first in the history of the Wray golf team to make it to state. Making it to state as a Sophomore showed me that I can only improve more, and I want it! I had made immense progress over the last two years and plan to make even more.
Living in rural Colorado makes me even more determine to be better, as there is less access to professional coaching of my sport. I have found creative ways to grow and learn golf. I practice daily and watch and learn from others (both good and bad golfers).
As far a jobs go, I've always been a pretty lucrative kid. I started with selling burritos and brownies to make a few hundred dollars several times a year starting at age 5. With the help of one of my mother's friends, I became close with a great man named Jeff. Jeff has helped me begin my job as a caddie at Bally Neal Golf Club, which was my first exposure to golf. I progressed quickly as a caddie, because I learned that the more I know, the more I earn. By the end of the first summer, I decided to actually swing a club and not just read the greens. I was told I had terrific form. I loved it from that first swing and decided that was my sport! One week later, I started my first year golfing as a freshman. I practiced daily after golf season, deciding to give up basketball and baseball to catch up to the level of the others on the golf team.
By the time summer rolled around, I was golfing at every tournament I could find which was almost weekly while continuing to caddie at Bally Neal Golf Course. I got on the local men's golf league every Thursday. My plan for this summer is to continue this process. I am able to keep learning and improving. There are times it would be nice to be near a big city just to have access to coaches but I continue to research and learn from everyone. I aim to improve every single part of how I move in golf!
I have been invited to golf at the state championship this summer in June, which I am very excited to experience. I can't wait to see what I can give and what I can improve.
