Personal Statement

Hello, I am Sam McLean, a dedicated golfer from The Cayman Islands. I currently attend a reputable golf academy, located in Nassau, Bahamas. For the past five years, I have represented The Cayman Islands National team, while additionally attending international tournaments, such as the Nico Open 2024 and the Callaway World Championships. A particular goal of mine was to participate in the IMG Academy Junior World Championships, which as a result of my hard work will be playing in July of 2024.

Golf has always been my passion, but in recent years, I have taken an interest in Architecture. When I attend college, I plan on balancing collegiate golf with a career in Architecture.

In the coming years, I look forward to continuously improving my golf, my academics, and building experience in the world of Architecture.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • SFPGA- Sandridge, Vero Beach
  • 2/01/25 to 2/02/25
  • Played great, shooting 78, 75! I placed 14th out of 52.
  • Camp/Event
  • CAJGC
  • 8/05/24 to 8/10/24
  • This tournament was great fun and overall as I saw a great improvement in my game. I had a few holes at the start of the last day that costed me from shooting a great score, however I did struggle with my driver and this golf course had very tricky, elevated tee shots. I shot 80, 84, 85: even though these scores are consistent I do believe my game is improving and it wont be long until I am constantly in the 70's. I also enjoy representing the Cayman Islands internationally, and being with the entire Cayman Islands Junior Team at this tournament was amazing!
  • Camp/Event
  • IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championship
  • 7/09/24 to 7/11/24
  • The IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championship 2024 was a tournament I will never forget! My eyes have been opened to the world of junior golf, the best junior golf. Playing along side some of the best golfers from all over the world was a great experience especially since we are all working for the same goal. Although this tournament was not the best version of myself score wise, dealing with the frustration and all the emotions I had during these 2 days was nothing but unforgettable. My confidence was broken, but I couldn't just walk off the course I had to keep going, which is exactly what I did. I have identified my weaknesses while also remembering that this was a US Open course so many parts of my game were not the problem, my yardage off the tee and green reading has to improve but I would never have known that if it was for the extremely challenging course Torrey Pines (South). I am viewing this tournament as a positive, I made my mistakes and now learning from them and not repeating them is how I move up. My mental game was outstanding along with planning for the tournament, very soon my physical game (in tournaments) will be there aswell.
  • Camp/Event
  • Nico Open 2024
  • 4/11/24 to 4/13/24
  • The Nico Open was an amazing experience. I shot 82, 82 (+20) however, I was exposed to new weather conditions like fog which I am not I used to since I live in the Caribbean. I learnt how to play in the altitude and tested my knowledge about course management. This tournament was a big positive as I have learnt many new things about my game, mentally and physically. I will be playing in the Nico Open 2025 and couldn’t be more excited as my game is only getting better.
