Personal Statement
In 2013, I got involved in The First Tee and The PGA Junior Golf League. Through these programs I learned the rules of golf and was introduced to competitive golf. Most importantly, I learned about the significance of practice, patience, and perseverance.
Since that time golf has been a cornerstone of my life that has helped me overcome many obstacles. It has helped me develop confidence that I lacked early in school. It has also helped me deal with physical barriers that used to overwhelm my mind. It has helped me focus on setting goals and attaining them.
I am a Junior at Colonel Zadok Magruder High School. I am in my third season participating on its golf team. As a Freshman, I was the only underclassman to start every match. As a Sophomore, I had the team low scoring average of 42.2. This year I was named team Captain and have the goal of leading our team to a division title.
My love for golf extends beyond playing. I have volunteered with The First Tee by helping to teach classes to younger golfers. It is very rewarding to help many young kids learn to love the game. I also work part time at Needwood, my local public golf course where I help with junior golf camps.
I have been an underdog at every level in my life and have always found a way to reach my goals and succeed.
Hard work and persistence has been the groundwork for my advancement. My family, coaches, and my faith have also added to my strong foundation and achievements.
I look forward to earning a chance to prove myself at the next level and sharing in those accomplishments with my coaches and team.
