James Devore '24 Recruiting Profile

I understand the responsibility of leading a team, and representing a program and institution.  I intend to set an example with my work ethic; in the classroom, in the gym, at the practice facility, and on the course.  Let's win the Conference title, and set our sights on the National Championship.  In my opinion, there's no other reason to play.  I want to be an integral part of a championship culture; whether contributing to an existing winning tradition, or helping to lay the groundwork of a championship program for years to come.  

I sincerely believe that, today, I possess the attributes sought from its athletes by collegiate programs.  I have demonstrated effective leadership among my peers on my high school golf team; contributing to the first varsity tournament win in the school's history (12 years).  I have excelled in the classroom; carrying a 4.0 GPA, to date.  After winning the 2022 STPGA Junior Championship, I was nominated for the South Texas PGA's Junior Golfer of the Year award; which I believe is testament to how I have been received among other players, coaches, and tournament staff since I began playing in their events at age 6.  

I realize that college coaches want PLAYERS.  And, in that regard, I'm a bit of a late bloomer.  I've dramatically improved my ball striking, short game, driving distance, and scores in the past year; and, am looking forward to posting some even more attractive scores in bigger events this spring and summer.  At the end of the day, I'm determined to become an attractive student athlete based on performance, alone, with the intangibles that I possess serving to enhance what I have to offer as a player.
