Evan Fleming '18 Recruiting Profile

I am Evan Fleming, I am goalie and an alumni of Cushing Academy.  I’ve been playing hockey since I was 10 years old.  My goal in hockey is to continually improve my game and take it to the next level.  In my case this means collegiate hockey and in order to play in college, I have just finished this season playing for the EHLP Walpole Express team. With Walpole I spent everyday over the past 7 months focusing on improving my game and being a better person on and off the ice.

I am committed to this goal.  When I was 14, I gave up living with my family, who were moving to India for my Dad’s job, just so I could stay in the US and keep playing.  I wanted to join a prep school with an elite hockey program and that’s why I came to Cushing.   I have started games at the JV and Varsity B levels.  I have not yet made Varsity A but that just means I work even harder now in my games and practice.  Cushing has a national reputation as one of New England’s most competitive hockey programs, so I still feel good about playing on Varsity B, where the compete level is also very high.

As an athlete, I train hard and listen to my coaches.  They appreciate my approach. For the past two summers, I have trained in Maryland at Network Hockey, run by Craig Laughlin (NHL 1981-89) and goalie coach Brent Johnson (NHL 1998-2012).  They have told me that I battle hard and I challenge on every shot.  At Cushing, I also play soccer and my coaches there recognize my leadership as I was named team captain of the JV team the past two seasons.

I work hard in school and have a 3.2 GPA.  I have achieved academic honors three times in three years.  My favorite subjects are math, French and music (I play baritone and trombone in the school jazz band).  Outside of hockey, I enjoy watching videos and hanging out with my friends.  I am easy going and relaxed.  My teachers and teammates say I am a great guy.  I think I have a “goalie” personality: quiet, focused and not easily rattled.
