Personal Statement

Playing for Union Thunder EHLp Juniors (my old HS Coach Sam) at EHLp tournament this weekend down at Ice Works Arena in Aston, PA.

See events part of the profile for some game details.

When it comes to a good school; I am open-minded and looking forward to playing at the next level someday soon.

I love the game. I started skating at 4 years old. I grew up at a big lake in Northern NJ where hockey was always fun and a valued part of our traditions and local culture. I started playing indoors as well when I was 7 years old and never looked back from there.

When I play hockey; I play hard and clean and I am committed to my coaches, my teammates and solid team play.

In school, life and hockey; I am always striving to earn my way and be a better person. I always put in as much effort and hard work as I possibly can and I do that for myself and my parents.

Today in 2023, I continue to grow and learn and work hard at becoming a more skilled and knowledgeable player and when I hit the ice I am always driven to compete.

I am very proud to have been voted as Team Captain by my OP teammates for my final season this 2022-2023 season. It is a big honor I respect and intend on living up to all the way.

Looking forward, I am hoping to get 2 important things out of this process; A) finding someone who has as much faith in me as I do and B) someone who is willing and able to give me the opportunity to chase a dream further and prove myself and my value to their school and ice hockey program.

For my North Jersey Kings 18U AA travel team, I wear a white helmet and the jersey number is # 63... our jerseys are white or navy depending on home and away games.

My Oratory Prep HS Varsity squad is pretty much the same; we wear white and navy jerseys. The visual difference for video watching? For my Oratory Prep HS team, we wear navy helmets and my jersey number is # 12.

I currently have several video clip packages uploaded-available as part of my NCSA profile. Note: I hope to have 1-2 new video clips packages edited and uploaded as soon as possible, once there is enough actual highlight footage from the 2022-2023 travel & HS combo seasons.

With my video clips, my goal has been simple... keep things short and quick while still providing as many clips which highlight how I consistently perform and move around as a playmaker and offensive player for both my NJK travel team and my OP HS squad.

Thank you so much for taking the time.

Final note: my hockey seasons are now officially over and my parents and I are currently in the process of managing all the financial aspects of my college submissions. All applications have been completed and submitted and all my acceptances are in. There are a few really solid, special places in my final mix.

I have some incredible school choices to narrow down now and determine which is the best fit for me. And I am very grateful for all the tremendous people I have met with and dealt with along the way. It has been an amazing past 18 months.

I will be making my final school decision once we are past the big final hurdle; sorting out all the merit, grants and financial aid stuff which is now finally in (this is the last necessary, critical step on my end of things.)

Thanks so much!

Ciaran Kelly

  • Just heads-up... if you check the link for weekly games scheduling via the AHF League site, for some reason, they list our North Jersey Kings 18U AA team as: Sportscare Kings 18U AA. This is probably done in order to differentiate between the 2 separate rinks which house the 2 separate NJ Kings Ice Hockey Travel programs (Sportscare Arena in Randolph, NJ and the Skylands Ice World in Stockholm, NJ.) Our team is based out of Sportscare Arena in Randolph, NJ (formerly called: Aspen Ice Arena.) Thanks.

  • The event is over and all went very well. Our North Jersey Kings 18U AA team finished 2-1 for the day out of our 3 assigned games. The play was very competitive with everyone. We beat the NJ Rockets squad and the Long Island Rebels squad. We lost our final game of the day to the Jaguars Black squad. Now, like everyone else involved, we just wait until later in the summer to see how the AHF League takes all the results and uses the game information in order to establish and set up the specific divisions for the 2022-2023 new travel short-season (which is due to start up in mid-to-late August 2022.)

  • Private skating with 2 separate professional instructors at Aspen Ice Arena (Randolph, NJ)
  • 2 years
  • Early Saturday morning private skating instruction; edge work, power and speed. Spring-Summer 2017 and 2018. Instructors worked exclusively with myself and one of my teammates. This was our choice for intensive prep work once we knew high school was 2 years away. We talked. Then we talked with our dads. And as a result, we decided to choose this private skating situation over the rink's existing spring league at the time. It was a great choice, incredibly helpful and far less expensive. It was spread out nicely both years over a 10 week window.
  • Private Skating at Twin Oaks Ice Rink (Morristown, NJ) with Coach Miles Atkian (Oratory Prep & NJ Colts)
  • 1 year
  • Training: Skate and skills drills with Coach Miles June-August 2023, 2 days per week... after getting out of work. I worked all summer at a local, major beer-wine-liquor outlet unloading trucks, moving pallets of incoming merchandise and doing all sorts of stocking.
