Going to Southeastern Districts with my brothers on Team Maryland was the highlight of my season. I may have not went to Nationals that year but that made me want to beat the TPH Thunder next time we played them. However I think I grew as a person and player when I made AAA for the first time. I learned about commitment, sacrificing my social life, and leadership. Before I made AAA for Team Maryland I had been cut by other AAA teams but that didn’t stop me. I used that failure and didn’t give up. I think that is when I started to fall in love with the game of hockey, when people said use to say I wasn’t good enough to play AAA… I showed them by working harder than they did and eventually I became better than the kids who use to be superstars to me.
Hi my name is Chris Shannon and I am different from other recruits and athletes because I can manage my time wisely, whether it's school, hockey, or my social life. Practice is an hour and a half away and I still manage to take mostly all advanced classes, and get good grades. On the way to the rink I get all my homework and studying done before practice and after all this I still manage to have a social life. In the game of hockey no one has a better first three steps than me and I am one of most physical players on the ice. Hockey may be a big part of my life but being a great person and getting good grades is my biggest. I go to Victory Elementary School’s library almost every day to help out... whether it’s organizing a book shelf, stacking chairs, or tightening bolts on tables or chairs… I do what I am told. When needed, I help mites and squirts on ice to help improve their game. I study at least two hours a night reviewing what I learned in class that day to stay strong academically.
Sitting on the couch all day eating potato chips didn't get me to where I am today... working out at the gym, getting up before school to go to private lessons, stick handling at least thirty minutes a day, shooting 200 pucks a day, eating healthy, and getting cut from teams and using that failure to motivate me to become a better player did. I greatly appreciate my mom and dad for supporting me through every step I have taken in life so far. I know I will be a great leader for your team because failure does not make me fall, it only makes me stronger!!!
