Lacrosse was a sport that was never on my radar. My mom's friend suggested I try it. I did and love it. My brother was taller and stronger than me and basketball was his sport. I looked up to him and thought basketball should be my sport too, but I was slow to grow and younger for my grade. It was hard to be in his shadow. With lacrosse, I felt like I could own this. Even when I was smaller I found I could thrive on the lacrosse field. Now that I am in my growth phase at 6'2" and still growing, I find that my height is coming in handy. I love being part of a team. I love the strategy of the game and playing with others that have a high lacrosse IQ and understand that a team does better when everyone is on the same page. That means sometimes being unselfish as a player and finding the assist instead of trying to create a difficult or impossible shot. That means knowing individual and team strengths and weaknesses. My coaches on both my lacrosse comp and high school teams have been great examples. They are positive, constructive, and supportive. They are great coaches and have believed and inspired me. I want to play for a coach and team that love the sport, love being part of something bigger than they are, and with that I know wins will come. I am smart although my GPA may not reflect that. I struggled my freshman and sophomore year with mental health and losing my aunt to ALS. The summer into my junior year I received a diagnosis of ADHD and have been treating that. My grades reflect how treating this has made all the difference. I am excited about playing at the next level and thriving both on and off the field.
