Dylan Morris, Row...My name is Dylan Morris, and I am a dedicated rower currently representing Molesey Boat Club—one of the UK’s top rowing clubs.
In the past year, I have begun to immerse myself in the world of competitive rowing, demonstrating my commitment to the sport by reaching the national schools champ (J18) singles final while being a J16. Notable accomplishments include securing gold in the Ball Cup Quad for both J16 and J18, and clinching victory at the Walton Weybridge Regatta. My dedication is further emphasized by podium finishes at the national indoor rowing championships (J15 and J16). These experiences have been the highpoints along my rowing journey so far and have also shaped my appetite for the sport.
My four-year journey in rowing has been marked by unwavering dedication, involving 19 hours of weekly training encompassing on-water sessions, land-based workouts, weight training, and aerobic sessions targeted toward rowing. My devotion to the sport has earned me a spot on the Great Britain U19 trials for this season, indicating that my consistency and hard work are paying off.
My experience in the rowing community has significantly contributed to my personal growth. I thrive on the camaraderie of the team, and this drives my competitive spirit to push myself to levels that I did not know I could reach, whether that be during a thirty-minute test or a 6 x 500m set. These experiences have not only honed my athletic skills but also fortified my character and work ethic.
Participation in sports has also been instrumental in enhancing my academic performance. The demand for balancing rigorous training schedules with academic responsibilities has taught me essential lessons in discipline and time management. This dual commitment to athletics and academics has laid the foundation for my personal and intellectual growth.
Looking ahead, my long-term aspiration is to represent Great Britain as an international rower and contribute to a Division 1 rowing crew in an American college. A sports scholarship for rowing would play a pivotal role in realising these goals. By rowing as part of a competitive crew in college, I aim to continue my academic studies while maximising my potential as a rower for both my college and, ultimately, my country.
I am excited about the prospect of joining a college crew and becoming an integral part of its thriving sports and academic community. I firmly believe that my dedication, achievements, and ambitions will allow me to bring my competitive spirit and teamwork to enhance both a college rowing program and contribute to the broader college community.
