Personal Statement
I have always felt a need to be the best that I can. I believe that sports are one of the best ways to achieve that, as they push people to their limits-both physically and mentally. As a student-athlete who has very rigorous classes and an intense training plan for his sport, I was able to learn several important life skills, such as time management, holding up under pressure, and discipline. Learning these skills has allowed me to become a better version of my self. Not to mention, picking up a sport has allowed me to find an activity that not only do I enjoy, but one that I excel at. I wish to keep these qualities for college, as I can continue to grow both my rowing career, and my self as a person.
Another reason that I want to play sports in college is that sports are one of the best ways to develop a person's pride for the university that they attend. I dream of the moment when I am sitting in a Collegiate eight, wearing my college's crew-unis and holding a matching sweeping oar. I dream of being able to bring my collage to victory on the water, and having a reason to continue this sport. I dream of stepping out of the boat, filled with pride for both my crewmates and the collage that I attend.
Lastly, continuing crew in collage will allow me to become exposed to new people and experiences. All my life, I have been used to being around large groups of people, and mingling with everyone. I will be able to meet new people and grow the social aspect of my life. Not to mention, perusing a career in collegiate rowing will force me to manage my time well and excel in both my classes and in the sport.
Overall, rowing in college will help me grow as a person as it will allow me to gain pride in my school, grow the social aspect of my life, and force me to stay on top of all of my responsibilities.
