Thank you Coaches for being interested in me, Diego Chavarria, Class of 2024.
I am an honors student at nationally recognized Mater Dei High School (Mater Dei) and elite defender for Pateadores ECNL U16 club in Orange County.
In Spring 2022, Coach Cale Rodriguez, who is also Assistant Coach for U.C. Irvine, recruited me. Coach then played me in 5 regular season games and 3 playoff matches. Working together, our team has reached the Elite 8 in the 2022 ECNL Championship in St. Louis, Missouri.
As a high school sophomore, Coach Ganey selected me for Mater Dei’s Varsity Soccer Team. In my first year on varsity, I played 11 matches, including making 6 starts at center defender. My personal highlight was holding Servite High School, our rivals and CIF Champions, to 1-0. Coach Ganey also used my "header skills" and "vertical jumping abilities" to create opportunities on set pieces. I am also very proud of my tough defending and my very precise passes.
As a freshman, I was Mater Dei's starting center defender. I started all 14 matches, produced 12 clean sheets with my teammate, scored three header goals and helped our team win first place in Trinity League.
My G.P.A. is 4.1. My coursework includes Algebra 2/Trigonometry, AP Literature, AP U.S. History, Spanish Honors (3), and Sports Medicine. I am also a member of Mater Dei’s Finance Club. I participate in a rigorous SAT training program and I enjoy playing golf with my father, uncles and teammates.
God willing, I will graduate in 2024 and my college goal is to play for a positive and high achieving soccer program and graduate with an advanced degree. My long-term goal is to become an Orthopedic Specialist and remain in the soccer community for my entire life.
I come from a very strong and supportive family. Cielo, my sister, is an high-achieving student leader at Wellesley College, our country's most prestigious historical women's college. My mother is a marketing executive with HP, a Fortune 100 company. My father is a senior construction relations/public affairs officer in Orange County. Both my parents are college graduates and former student leaders at San Diego State University.
